  • Mayonnaise – I use homemade mayo when I get the chance because it just tastes better (and takes only a few minutes to make!), but it’s totally fine to use store-bought and I’ve done this before as well. You can also use Greek yogurt as an alternative, but the flavor will be different.

  1. Cook the eggs. Use my easy peel boiled eggs method to boil the eggs. (You can also use any other method, such as air fryer boiled eggs.) Place in ice waterto cool, then peel.

  1. Mash the yolks. Slice the eggs in half the long way with aparing knife. Remove the yolks and place them into a large bowl. Mash with a fork.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients. Add the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, and sea salt to the egg yolks. Mix well.

  1. Assemble. Pipe the egg yolk mixture back into the egg white halves with apiping bag, or just use a spoon if you don’t have one. Sprinkle this classic deviled egg recipe with smoked paprika and fresh chives.

How Long To Boil Eggs For Deviled Eggs?

The eggs should be hard boiled, but not overdone. Using the method where you boil them the entire time (rather than removing from heat to finish), cook the eggs for 7-10 minutes to get the right consistency.

Recipe Variations

The recipe card below is the basic version, but there are many ways to make deviled egg recipes by using this one as a starting point. Here are some of the variations I’ve tried over the years:

  • Avocado – Use mashed ripe avocado instead of mayonnaise.
  • Spicy – Kick up the heat by adding 1-2 minced jalapenos or your favorite spicy seasonings into the yolk mixture. Adjust the amounts according to your preferred spice level.
  • Southern – For a Southern twist, add around 1-2 tablespoons of sweet pickle relish to the yolk mixture.

Storage Instructions

I don’t recommend freezing them. It will ruin the texture of the egg whites.
