Hebrews 2:1–4 — English Standard Version (ESV)

1Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. 2For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, 3how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, 4while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

Hebrews 2:1–4 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

1Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. 2For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; 3How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; 4God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

Hebrews 2:1–4 — New Living Translation (NLT)

1So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. 2For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished. 3So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak? 4And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.

Hebrews 2:1–4 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

1Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. 2For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, 3how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, 4God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?

Hebrews 2:1–4 — New Century Version (NCV)

1So we must be more careful to follow what we were taught. Then we will not stray away from the truth. 2The teaching God spoke through angels was shown to be true, and anyone who did not follow it or obey it received the punishment that was earned. 3So surely we also will be punished if we ignore this great salvation. The Lord himself first told about this salvation, and those who heard him testified it was true. 4God also testified to the truth of the message by using wonders, great signs, many kinds of miracles, and by giving people gifts through the Holy Spirit, just as he wanted.

Hebrews 2:1–4 — American Standard Version (ASV)

1Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things that were heard, lest haply we drift away from them. 2For if the word spoken through angels proved stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; 3how shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation? which having at the first been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed unto us by them that heard; 4God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders, and by manifold powers, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will.

Hebrews 2:1–4 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

1For this reason we should give heed more abundantly to the things we have heard, lest in any way we should slip away. 2For if the word which was spoken by angels was firm, and every transgression and disobedience received just retribution, 3how shall we escape if we have been negligent of so great salvation, which, having had its commencement in being spoken of by the Lord, has been confirmed to us by those who have heard; 4God bearing, besides, witness with them to it, both by signs and wonders, and various acts of power, and distributions of the Holy Spirit, according to his will?

Hebrews 2:1–4 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

1For this reason we must pay closer attention to what we have heard. Then we won’t drift away ⸤from the truth⸥. 2After all, the message that the angels brought was reliable, and every violation and act of disobedience was properly punished. 3So how will we escape punishment if we reject the important message, the message that God saved us? First, the Lord told this saving message. Then those who heard him confirmed that message. 4God verified what they said through miraculous signs, amazing things, other powerful acts, and with other gifts from the Holy Spirit as he wanted.

Hebrews 2:1–4 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

1We must, therefore, pay even more attention to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away. 2For if the message spoken through angels was legally binding and every transgression and disobedience received a just punishment, 3how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was first spoken by the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him. 4At the same time, God also testified by signs and wonders, various miracles, and distributions of gifts from the Holy Spirit according to His will.

Hebrews 2:1–4 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

1Therefore we must pay greater attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it. 2For if the message declared through angels was valid, and every transgression or disobedience received a just penalty, 3how can we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? It was declared at first through the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard him, 4while God added his testimony by signs and wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, distributed according to his will.

Hebrews 2:1–4 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

1Because of this, it is all the more necessary that we pay attention to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. 2For if the word spoken through angels was binding and every transgression and act of disobedience received a just penalty, 3how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation which had its beginning when it was spoken through the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard, 4while God was testifying at the same time by signs and wonders and various miracles and distributions of the Holy Spirit according to his will.

Hebrews 2:1–4 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

1So we must pay more careful attention to what we have heard. Then we will not drift away from it. 2Even the message God spoke through angels had to be obeyed. Every time people broke the Law, they were punished. Every time they didn’t obey, they were punished. 3Then how will we escape if we don’t pay attention to God’s great salvation?

The Lord first announced that salvation. Those who heard him gave us the message about it. 4God gave witness to it through signs and wonders. He gave witness through different kinds of miracles. He also gave witness through the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He gave them out as it pleased him.

Hebrews 2:1–4 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

1For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it.

2For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty,

3how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard,

4God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.
