I had an amazing time serving as one of the speakers for Gillings School of Public Health’s Inclusive Excellence Summer Symposium.Being able to highlight how spirituality and Indigenous ways of knowledge can benefit mental health in both academic and personal settings was rewarding and incredibly honoring. A huge thank you to my good friend Gemma Herrera, M.Ed as well as the entire planning committee, and my fellow speakers Ramine Alexander, PhD, MPH & Dr. Raé Nicole Lundy for a memorable experience. I hope the time spent at this year’s Symposium was revitalizing for all the attendees as much as it was for us as facilitators!

With the hectic nature of wrapping up spring semester programming, it was nice to be able to recenter this past Saturday by displaying my artwork at Lexington’s 28th Annual Multicultural Celebration.Art is a craft that allows me to reflect and refocus, while simultaneously advocating for the communities that I come from. It’s an honor to be able to represent my culture in any city I enter, and I’m excited to pursue opportunities to do this in the future while also blending this craft with my focus of Well-Being!

Last night served as a solid reminder of why I do the work that I do in Multicultural Student Affairs. Our office’s annual Graduation Celebration is both a beautiful and bittersweet time. While it’s rewarding to see our students accomplish their goal of graduation, it also comes with the reality that they are moving on to new chapters. To me, that’s the goal of mentorship and relational work though. Supporting students and developing their confidence to take on the world unapologetically. I’m excited for them to leave as much as I’m saddened by it, and it’s an incredible blessing to have a community of students that make these transitions so hard. I also want to give a special s/o to my amazing Graduate Programming Coordinators that quickly became family. Roma Bustillos and Sergio Madera-Garcia your dedication to this work is inspiring and each of you are going to continue making amazing strides in this profession. Cheers to the class of 2024, and may each of you walk into this new chapter of life with heads held high and smiles wide.

A huge thank you to The Hunt Institute for allowing me to lead a fireside chat for their Impact Fellows Program! With everyone going into finals/end of semester endeavors, I’m glad that I was able to encourage students to think about their wellness practices across the different areas/quadrants of their life, (physical, spiritual, emotional, communal).Shout out to Jamison Lowery for connecting me, and looking forward to opportunities to support The Hunt Institute in the future!

Super excited for two speaking engagements I have coming up! The first will be with The Hunt Institute, where I will be leading a virtual fireside discussion on well-being, and how it can be applied to both individuals and organizations. The second will be with the Gillings’s School of Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill, where I will be speaking alongside Dr. Ramine Alexander and Dr. Rae Lundy for the 5th Annual IE Summer Symposium. As a portion of this engagement, I will be able to host my “What Goes Around” well-being workshop, while also being able to focus specifically on the quadrant of Spirituality and how it relates to health, self-reflection, and empowerment. I’m incredibly thankful to have these opportunities for representing my work, my native community, and ultimately the passion I hold for well-being practices. Practices that apply to not only students, but practitioners as well.If you’re interested in bringing these types of workshops to your campus or organization, don’t hesitate to reach out to glbell321@gmail.com.
