I'm looking for a bit of help on the father in law's Ford 3000.
The lift is messing about on her -
With the lever fully down and the linkbox on the ground you could pull the lift lever almost 3/4's of the way through its range before the linkbox will lift.
In the remaining 1/4 of travel the linkbox comes up with a jolt each time you move the lever and if you push the lever towards the down position it drops rapidly back to the ground.
I've dipped her for oil - see's bang on, oil is clean looking and as far as I know the pump is working as I put a new pump on her two years ago - so i'm ruling out cavitation of the pump as the issue.
What do you think could be wrong and how can I adjust the range of travel on the lift lever?
Thanks

First question, perforce or force.
Second question, does it have the original pump or one with a filter like on the 3600?

Nash
she's a force and yes I fitted her with the better pump with the external filter - made hell of a difference to her!

That narrows it down, I will come back to it later but is the draft position lever working?

I was thinking about this and it might be a few things.
I wonder is there a seal gone in the stack pipe beside your right boot?
Or indeed inside in the top cover.
I don't think it is anything to do with the adjustment inside, there is a spring for that as well IIRC.
It might be no harm to lift off the top cover and reseal it first, the pack is not that expensive to be honest and check everything when it's off.
But as I said, check the position/draft lever first as well as the external services control as it could do funny things at times too on our one.
The new pump doesn't seem to be an issue.

There is a little stub that the cam pushes against to activate the lift inside the lift cover, this could be worn.

I'll check if the draft lever on Sunday lads when i'm back visiting the inlaws - I hope its as simple as something being out of position, either the draft lever or the external services control knob being in the wrong place.
I'll keep you posted.

Tbh I haven't got near this since - been up to my eyes with a refurb of the Laser 90 and with work.
Father in law is in no panic - it'll be fixed sometime.

It really sounds like you have draft control selected instead of position control by what you describe.

Yep, you don't see that many done up. Shes got a complete stripdown, all the rot cut out and new metal in its place. Shes getting new paint, a new interior and new steps. I wanted to put a third da spool on her but it was just too expensive for all times id need it. Shes been om the farm since 1994 so it was time she got an overhaul. I'll send a lonk to my facebbok page with all the photos on it when shes done. Hopefully in about a fortnights time!
